German Parliament Decision On Funds For Romania Unrelated To MCV In Justice - TI

TI-Ro leader Victor Alistar told MEDIAFAX on Monday that TI has analyzed the Bundestag’s (German Parliament) document and has come to the conclusion that its request is legitimate.

“According to the MCV, Romania is a black hole. The sanctions on the MCV may or may not follow, but Romania’s issues with the running of the Justice system and the rule of law called the German MPs’ attention to how their money might go to waste,” Alistar said.

He added that, according to the accession treaty, the only penalty in the MCV is refusal to recognize judicial decisions issued in Romania on European territory, therefore the Bundestag’s decision could not be regarded as a measure taken in the MCV. Alistar also confirmed the decision is unrelated to the loan Romania requested from the European Union.

The resolution adopted Thursday by the German Parliament, demanding that EU cut aid to Romania, is based on a document by the Human Rights Commission, which noted “concern for the problems remaining in the way of the rule of law.”
