The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Wednesday that a Romanian citizen has been kidnapped in Nigeria and specific procedures have been unfolded, adding details will be provided in due time.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs verified, Wednesday morning, the information according to which one Romanian citizen has been kidnapped in Nigeria, ministry spokesperson Alin Serbanescu told MEDIAFAX.

Following investigations, the ministry confirmed that one Romanian citizen has been kidnapped in Nigeria and announced procedures applicable in such situations have been initiated.

Armed individuals, on fast boats, attacked an oil tanker loaded with 4,000 tons of diesel fuel off the coast of Nigeria, Wednesday, and kidnapped one Romanian crew member, security sources told Reuters.
