Over 30 Romanians Arrested Recently In Spain, Mostly For Theft

Spanish daily El Mundo informs online that seven Romanians with ages between 21 and 40 were placed in preventive arrest by Madrid Police for theft from the city graveyard.

According to the daily, police officers accuse them of stealing several marble and granite tombstones, bronze statues as well as coffins, “exhumed on the commemoration of ten years since death”.

El Periodico de Aragon informs that another eight Romanians were arrested for theft, accused of having stolen 300 bottles of whisky, 300 bottles of rum, 550 bottles of Martini and 2,400 boxes of gel and shampoo. The goods were discovered in a car ever since April.

Las Provincias daily notes that 20 Romanians were arrested and charged with “highway robbery”.

"The old way of attacking stagecoaches and trains, made famous in westerns, has a modern variant,” writes the quoted daily, adding a group of people was arrested for stealing items from trucks driving on the highway. The attacks were mostly committed in the dark. One of the cars would take position in front of the truck while the other, preferably a convertible, would drive behind the truck. One of the thieves would climb unto the hood of the car, open the truck and take out the goods. In this context, there were a total number of 23 arrests, including 20 Romanians and 3 Spaniards, under charges of robbery, association with the purpose to commit crimes and endangering traffic.
