Over Three Quarters Of Romanians Pay Bills Directly With Service Providers - Poll

The survey also shows that 39% of respondents foot their bills using postal services.

About 25% of Romanians said they go directly to lenders' pay desks, 5% said they use ATMs and only 2% use internet banking. According to the survey, 11% of respondents use pay services available in stores or gas stations.

More than half of Romanians pay their water bill directly at the provider's pay desk, 10% use bank services and 9% resort to postal services.

Over 40% of respondents said they pay gas bills at the gas provider's pay desk, 25% use banks' pay offices, 12% resort to postal services, 6% to ATMs and 8% pay gas bills using services available in stores and gas stations.

Electricity bills are paid with electricity providers' pay desks by over 40% of respondents, 35% of Romanians resort to postal services and only 15% to bank services.

According to the survey, 34% of respondents pay their communications service bill (internet, TV cable, and hard-line phone services) all at once. Of these, 66% go directly to the service provider, 18% use postal services and 10% resort to banks.

The poll shows that 55% of respondents pay mobile phone bills directly with the service provider, 18% of Romanians use bank services and 11% resort to pay services available in stores and gas stations.

According to the survey, 27% of respondents said that, paying bills directly at the service provider's pay desk is more secure, 21% said they use this pay method out of mere habit, 21% because it is easier this way. About 31% of respondents said they use postal services to pay their bills because the post office is closer to their home or workplace, 15% said it is an easy-to-use service and 15% said it is easier to use postal services.

About 26% of people who resort to banks' pay desks said it is an easier pay method, 20% said it saves time, while 14% said they use this method because they don't have a bank card or they don't know how to use it.

Only 6% of respondents pay their bills using bank cards, while most of them use cash.

The survey was conducted in June 2010 on 1,000 respondents in rural and urban areas.
