“The two bonuses were not cut out. They have been postponed from payment and they will be paid, once we have the resources. We do not intend to cut new bonuses; it’s out of the question. Only these two bonuses will be temporarily postponed,” Stanisoara said.

He said that in spite of the austere budget, the Romanian army is fully capable to complete its missions.

Stanisoara mentioned he received assurances that the Defense Ministry will be the first ministry to benefit from a positive budget revision this summer.

“I hope that the summer revision will be positive and that we will have the money to pay these delayed sums. I was promised that MApN (the National Defense Ministry – e.n.) will be the first on the list,” Stanisoara said.

Asked to comment on reports indicating that 90% of the military staff benefited from the radiation bonuses, Stanisoara said he has no knowledge of the percentage being correct.

“I don’t know if 90% (of the employees) are exposed to radiations. I believe that large part of MAnN’s staff benefited from this bonus and they continue to benefit from it, as it was delayed from payment,” Stanisoara said.

Stanisoara also dismissed as “stories” the rumors about a cutback in food ratio for the military personnel.

“There is no such thing as reduced food ratio. These are mere stories. The food ratio is set by law and there is no question of any interference.”
