Romania Pres To Demand Interior Min Spending Analysis

Romanian president Traian Basescu said he will notify the state’s institutions for a very serious analysis regarding cars and equipment contracted by the Ministry of Interior and regarding the first stage of obtaining the objectives assumed so that Romania may enter the Schengen space.

Basescu said the Ministry signed contracts for 392 Dacia Logan cars at the price of EUR11,700 per car, and for each one EUR40,000 worth of equipment was contracted, more than three times the value of the car, while the equipment contracted for BMW cars cost EUR60,000 for each car.

Regarding the program for the implementation of measures towards accession to the Schengen space, Basescu said the sums allocated for this program were spent without any evolution regarding the setting up of equipment at the national borders, while some of the money was spent on studies and not equipment.
