Romania Registered Three AH1N1 Deaths In End-Jan

Three people died in Romania in the last week of January because of A/H1N1 flu, while another 40 have been confirmed infected with the virus, with outbreaks reported in Bucharest and the counties Iasi, Bacau, Constanta, Prahova and Mures, according to the National Public Health Institute.

The Institute’s surveillance center reported 75 cases of influenza between January 24 and 30, of which 43 were of the subtype A/H1N1 and 32 were of type B. Three of the people infected with A/H1N1 died – in the counties Bistrita, Constanta and Salaj.

Doctors have reported an increase in the incidence of acute viral infections and flu, mostly in children up to 14 years of age.

By the end of January, 1,140,589 people had been vaccinated against flu, including 572,884 people older than 65, according to official data.

Between October 2010 and February 1, 2011, health authorities registered 121 cases of flu, including 79 of subtype A/H1N1, 40 of type B and two of subtype A/H3N2.
