Romania's 1H Used Car Sales Via Dealers Up 20% On Yr - BDT

Used car sales via dealers rose nearly 20% in the first half of 2010, and if this trend maintains, Romania's overall used car market will reach at the end of 2010 the level hit in 2008, officials with BDT, one of Romania’s major players on the local auto retail market, said Tuesday.

"Sales of used cars purchased via dealers have increased significantly. This trend is due to Romanians spending less and less money on cars and the fact that dealers provide warranty on purchased vehicles", said Dragos Piele, head of the Occasional Car Department with BDT.

BDT's marketing manager, Vlad Ionescu, said sales of used cars distributed by BDT rose 22% on the year in the first half of 2010, adding a 24% increase on the year is expected until the end of 2010.

"We have every reason to believe that this year's sales will reach the level in 2008, the best year for the overall car market", said Ionescu, adding a one-year old car is 20% up to 40% cheaper, depending on the evolution of sale prices at dealerships too.

The average purchase price for a used car reaches EUR6,000.

BDT (Business Development Team), set up in 1999, sells car brands Ford, Mazda, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and includes a company, called Carlex, specialized in premium car sales. BDT Group also provides buy-back, insurance and car rental services.
