Basescu asked social democrats to consider the proposition of forming a national union government and said he wants the new Executive to have a solid parliament majority.

Basescu highlighted he does not disregard the prospect the country could be ruled by a national union government for a while, considering that parliament elections are to be held in 2012.

Basescu added he would like social democrat Marian Sarbu to be appointed labor minister.

During discussions with Basescu, the social democrat delegation opted for a Government based on a wide majority, adding liberal leader Crin Antonescu would be endorsed by this majority for prime minister.
