Berceanu said one of the express roads to be replaced by a new highway is the Craiova-Pitesti road, whose construction should have begun in 2008.

The new highway is to provide a link to Pitesti-Bucharest highway.

“The express road Craiova-Pitesti will no longer be built, as it will become a highway (…). The highway requires special studies, route studies, because these things cannot be made just by snapping one’s fingers,” Berceanu said.

Berceanu said express roads are not the solution for traffic congestion and that he had talks on the matter with transportation ministers from EU states, who advised him to build highways instead.
