On the other hand, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is still looking into the matter to check the information.

According to the radio station, “the four Romanian citizens were never in danger, were never taken hostage, and are no longer on the island". The radio also said the four were tourists and were unable to leave the island, as the Chinese laborers had blocked the port.

The four Romanians allegedly left West Caicos and are allegedly on Providencial island.

Contacted by MEDIAFAX, the Foreign Ministry’s press office said the ministry is still working to check the information.

Four Romanian citizens are part of a group of 17 foreigners, mostly Israelis, held hostage by disgruntled Chinese laborers on isolated Caribbean island, said Israel's ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Amos Radian, cited by Ynetnews.com.

Radian said that “In all there were over ten Israelis on the island, along with four Romanians and three Indians. In all 14 people were let go and six remained. Most of the Israelis were released."

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Thursday evening that the majority of the Israelis held hostage by Chinese laborers on West Caicos, several more remain on the small isolated island.

The hostages are employees of the Ashtrom Engineering and Construction firm, which employed the 300 laborers for a large tourism project. The venture, however, was put on hold due to the global financial crisis.

The Caicos isles don’t have police or security forces.
