Automobile Dacia union vice-president Ion Iordache on Wednesday said all employees will receive a salary raise of RON220, starting January 1, and a raise of RON80 starting April 1.

"The unionists and the management have reached an agreement today (e.n. - Wednesday) on the new collective labor contract for 2010, particularly as regards salary raises. Unionists have managed to obtain a salary raise of RON300 for each employee, which will be paid in two stages, namely RON220, starting January 1, and RON80 starting April 1, therefore, the minimum salary, excluding bonuses, for a qualified worker will be of RON1,650 in April," said Iordache.

Iordache added the agreement also stipulates that employees will receive a profit sharing bonus of RON700 in May this year.

Iordache also said negotiations on the collective labor contract for 2010 will continue to reach further agreements on other nagging issues, such as labor protection.

Unionists initially demanded a salary raise of RON520 for all employees, starting January 1, 2010. The management's offer of RON170, to be paid in three installments - in January, April and September, disgruntled the unionists who announced conflict of interest last week.

Last week, Iordache said salary raise demands are only fair given the factory's good results in 2009 and its favorable forecast for 2010. The union leader added at the time that if the management's response was not satisfactory, the territorial employment agency would be called in to mediate a new round of talks.

In the spring of 2008, Dacia's employees went on a strike which lasted around three weeks.

Automobile Dacia, part of the French Renault group, sold 311,282 cars last year, up by 20.5% compared to 2008, but sales in Romania dropped by more than 50% to 41,862 cars, although the company succeeded in slightly increasing its share of the local market.
