Romanian Counterintelligence Surveillance Dates Back To ’05 – Sources

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) has been monitoring, since 2005, intelligence gathering activities by foreign intelligence structures, and the General Counterintelligence Division within SRI obtained information on the existence of such operations on Romanian soil, according to SRI sources.

A security audit is unfolding within Division I Infantry of the Romanian Land Armed Forces, the unit suspected spy Floricel Achim.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the security audit is meant to establish the circumstances in which the suspect would be able to commit the acts of espionage he is charged with.

One petty-officer within the Romanian Ministry of Defense and one foreign citizen were placed under preventive arrest for 29 days, at the proposition of organized crime prosecutors, the charges being treason through the transmission of secretes and espionage.
