The Health Ministry proposed the scrapping of 374 jobs, of which 119 are in institutions funded by the state budget and 255 in self-financing institutions, the ministry said in a press release.

The ministry added it estimates to lower costs by about RON10 million.

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc talked Saturday and Sunday with ministers and state secretaries about the need to reduce the number of government agencies and institutions subordinated to ministries by mid-August.

Early July, the prime minister said the number of government agencies would be cut to half, with the exception of institutions created to meet European Union requirements.

Institutions subordinated to the Health Ministry include county health departments, the National Transplant Agency in Bucharest and the National Mental Health Center in Bucharest.
