Boc told the evacuees they would receive construction materials, adding that the authorities’ goal is to make sure no flood victim in Romania „is left without a roof above his head this winter.”

The Prime Minister was accompanied by county council head Gheorghe Flutur and county prefect Sorin Popescu.

The village was affected by the overflow of a nearby brook, which destroyed six houses and a bridge, damaged 130 other houses and cut off 14 residences from the main roads.

During the past few days, Boc and Romanian President Traian Basescu have visited several towns and villages affected by the recent floods, in the counties of Suceava, Botosani, Bacau and Galati. Boc and Basescu talked with the locals, promising them dams would be built and victims would receive flood relief.

Twenty-three people have died in the severe floods that hit Romania over the past two weeks and thousands have been evacuated from their homes.

A heavy rainfall alert is still in place for 16 counties until Monday morning.
