The current Romanian electoral system is inefficient when it comes to citizen representation, because it has allowed access to positions for politicians who ranked second and third in elections, disadvantaging the winners, said Monday democrat liberal leader and Prime Minister Emil Boc.

"The current electoral system is inefficient when it comes to citizen representation. A system should represent the interests of voting citizens, and those with more votes should be chosen instead of those with fewer votes," Boc said.

He added that there have been cases where there were second and third ranking politicians sent to Parliament instead of election winners, thus the best electoral formula needs to be identified.

The leader of social democrat deputies, Viorel Hrebenciuc, said Monday he was approached by democrat liberals regarding a change in the vote redistribution system, adding that talks were unofficial.
