He also warned prefects across the country, in a videoconference Saturday, that they too would be sanctioned if they don't intervene to prevent such situations.

Boc said the state has enough money to pay wages but payments aren't made on time because of incompetent or lazy public workers who stall procedures.

"We have money for wages, indemnities, child allowances and if there are delays in payment because of laziness, incompetence or mere stupidity, please dismiss those managers," Boc told prefects Saturday.

He also warned prefects that they are directly responsible for the enforcement of laws in their areas and they too would lose their jobs unless they intervene.

"Where you fail to intervene, we'll sack both prefect and head of labor or fiscal administration departments, because I'm sick and tired of getting complaints in Bucharest. Unless you do your job, I will be forced to intervene and heads will roll," Boc said.
