Romanian President Announced Iraq Withdrawal Without Consulting Supreme Def Council – Senate Chairman

Geoana said in a press conference Sunday that an investigation on the way the President and Defense Minister acted regarding the pullout of Romanian troops from Iraq will be announced next week.

The social democrat leader accused president Basescu of using the Army’s image for election purposes, referring to the recent visits the head of state made in Romania’s operation theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Geoana announced “officially” that he is requesting the amendment of the coalition agreement provisions on including the Senate Chairman in the membership of the Supreme Defense Council.

Geoana said Sunday he is withdrawing from the Supreme Defense Council, or CSAT.
