Romanian Released In Rome After 34 Days In Custody On Rape Charges To Claim Moral Damages

"Of course we will claim moral damages. But now is not the time to talk about this,” La Marca said.

Racz was released from custody Tuesday after he was charged with two cases of rape.

He denied any wrongdoing Tuesday evening during a TV show on RAI Uno, where he offered details about his childhood.

"I’d like to stay in Italy, because I don’t know what to do in Romania,” Racz said with tears in his eyes during the TV show. "I was never in the Caffarella area or any other park in Rome. The only places I know are those around the Roma camp where I lived,” he said.

Racz, 36, was initially arrested together with another Romanian citizen, Alexandru Loyos Isztoika, and charged with the rape of a teenage girl on February 14 in the Caffarella park in Rome. DNA tests later proved the tow had nothing to do with the case, but Racz was also made a suspect in another rape case, that of a 41 year-old woman, in the Primavalle neighborhood in Rome. He was released Tuesday on lack of evidence.
