French carmakers Renault and Peugeot have already sent Rombat the technical specifications of the batteries, Rombat officials said Thursday.

Rombat is considering sealing a partnership with Ford Romania, to produce batteries for its hybrid cars.

"The project for the new batteries required investments of EUR15 million. These batteries will help reduce the car's fuel consumption by at least 8%," Rombat's general manager Ioan Repede said.

On the other hand, Rombat plans to build several micro-hydropower plants of 2 megawatts power each, in a EUR5 million project, Repede said. The respective units will be located on several rivers in eastern Romania and will be connected to the national power distribution system.

Moreover, Rombat aims to expand its battery recycling unit at Copsa Mica, in a EUR8 million investment.

On Thursday, Rombat opened in Bucharest its ninth service center and showroom in Romania.

Around 60% of Rombat's products are exported. The company has a market share of over 50% share in Romania.

Rombat reported EUR28.8 million in first-half sales, up 30% on the year.
