Timmermans Threatens Romania’s Ruling Party with Exclusion from European Socialists

Timmermans, who is currently the Commission’s first vice-president, said that the social-democrats must actively take measures to improve Romania’s situation.

“Unlike the European People’s Party, we will not need ten years to act,” the PES official said, referring to the rival party’s decision to suspend the membership of Hungarian ruling party Fidesz.

The EU official also criticized the Romanian Government for recent judicial measures on Wednesday, warning that the Commission might end up taking actions against the country if criminal laws will be further weakened by the executive’s measures.
