U.S. VP Biden Meets With Romanian Officials Thursday

U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden, who arrived in Romania’s capital Bucharest Wednesday evening, meets Thursday with Romanian President Traian Basescu, acting Prime Minister Emil Boc, Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana and liberal leader Crin Antonescu.

The U.S. official has also scheduled a speech at the Central University Library in Bucharest.

Biden is on an Eastern European tour a month after the Obama administration scrapped a Bush-era plan that would have placed anti-missile defense bases in Poland and the Czech Republic. Biden was in Warsaw Tuesday and will leave for Prague Friday, after his Bucharest visit.

Obama said in September the scrapped Bush-era plan will be scaled down and replaced with a sea-based system to target short and medium range missiles aimed at Europe.
