In the context of the country aiming to access European funds, the president said that the state’s institutions, which function following strict rules imposed by the EU should no longer be reserved with respect for developing important projects in election years only because governments and politicians change.

The official added that the Romanian administration no longer stumbles on reticent approaches regarding the development of projects during election years.

“Control bodies are meant to control us. We are scared because the Court of Accounts or the National Anticorruption Department controls us,” the president said.

The head of the state concluded by saying that democracy means freedom, allowing people to wonder, have doubts, ask for an investigation and receive an answer.
