Romanian Senators Want To Offer Free Milk To Pvt School Kids As Well

Romanian senators enacted, Tuesday, an amendment to a Government Ordinance stating that the “milk and bagel” program, offering free dairy and bread products to school and preschool children, could be brought to private schools as well.

According to an amendment brought to Government Ordinance 95/2008 amending the manner of granting dairy and bread products to preschoolers and pupils the phrase “public schools” will be replaced with the phrase "public and private schools ". The amendment was proposed for approval in the Education Committee within the Senate.

The amendment was voted with 40 pros, one con and one abstention.

Ordinance 95/2008 stated the extension of the “milk and bagel” program for children in elementary school. Initially, the program only targeted first to fifth graders.

The Senate is the first chamber notified and a final decision will be rendered by the Chamber of Deputies.
