Nemirschi said he finds it unfair that Romanians who register their cars in Bulgaria can use the same road infrastructure as car owners who pay the road tolls levied by the Romanian authorities.

Nemirschi added that most of the cars registered in Bulgaria and used by Romanian nationals are mostly ‘jalopies’ and are highly pollutant.

According to Nemirschi, this ‘phenomenon’ began when the Romanian government decided to triple the tax for the car’s first registration. He stated that a way to stop it is being sought, but that the system “seems to have been very well thought out.”

Nemirschi said that, lacking a resolution, he hopes the phenomenon will end once the lower tax, a decision he took, is introduced.

According to Nemirschi, 3% of the cars owned by Romanians are registered to Bulgarians.
