US Ambassador: Amnesty And Pardoning Is Romania’s Decision

The United States’ Ambassador to Romania, Hans Klemm, said on Monday that the country is monitoring evolutions regarding a rumored amnesty and pardoning decree prepared by the Romanian Government, adding that the decision belongs with state authorities.

“It is a matter we are following closely (…) It is Romania’s decision. We are following the situation with great attention,” said the US Ambassador.

Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila denied rumors that such a decree would be passed until the end of the year, stating that the subject was not discussed within the Government.

Social Democrat Party leader Liviu Dragnea also denied knowledge of the subject.
