The rate of software piracy dropped to 64% in Romania in 2010, from 65% in 2009, and losses triggered by software piracy increased by 6.55%, to $195 million, according to a report drawn up by Business Software Alliance (BSA).

Romania's PC Software Piracy Rate Dn 1 Pct In 2010, To 64% - BSA

In 2009, losses caused by software piracy in Romania stood at $183 million.

Compared to 2006, the rate of software piracy in the East European country decreased by 5 percentage points.

According to BSA, the total value of pirated software applications increased by 14% last year, to $58.8 billion.

Georgia registered the highest piracy rate (93%) in 2010, and was followed by Zimbabwe (91%) and Bangladesh and the Republic of Moldova (90% each). The United States, Japan and Luxembourg reported the lowest piracy rate last year, namely 20%.
