"I think it would be appropriate to hold elections for the Romanian Parliament at the same time with elections for the European Parliament,” Funar told a news conference Friday.

He added he also talked to lawmakers of other political parties and most of them found it reasonable to overlap parliament elections, saying Romanians have had their share of polls this year and last year.

"We’ve had two referendums, two rounds of local elections, and with uninominal parliament elections in November, it is likely that many Romanians will not vote. Then in February-March 2009 we have elections for the European Parliament, and presidential elections in November 2009. To say nothing of the costs, which would be double,” Funar argued.
