Romanian Judoka Alina Dumitru Gets Olympic Gold

Romanian judoka Alina Dumitru won the Olympic title at the 48 kilogram category within the Beijing Olympics, bringing the first gold medal for the Romanian delegation in China.

Dumitru defeated Cuban Yanet Bermoy in the final, through an ippon.
The 26-year old Romanian athlete is five times European champion, but she did not hold any Olympic medals, as in Athens, in 2004, she missed the top three, ranking fifth. Aside from the European titles, Dumitru also holds two bronse medals in World Championships in 2005 and 2007.
The Olympic bronze went to Japan’s Tani Ryoko and Argentina’s Paula Belen Pareto.
