The protesters began the protest around 11.00 local time and they await the arrival of several hundreds of people from the eastern Romanian city of Galati.

The protesters brought a coffin inscribed on one side with "Rights of employees and pensioners," and on the other side with "National Liberal Party + Ministry of Labor + Justice." In addition, Galati unionists carry several banners, one of them reading "down with (labor minister) Pacuraru," while another banner reads "down with the (liberals) PNL," and the logo of the social democrats below.

One of the unionists is dressed in a judge’s robe and carries a poster that reads: "Corrupt judge."

The protest comes after unionists filed a criminal complaint against labor minister Paul Pacuraru claiming that, through the cancellation of the conflict of interests, they were denied the legal right to strike after the failing of negotiations with ArcelorMittal management.

In his turn, labor minister Paul Pacuraru told MEDIAFAX that the criminal complaint filed against him is political in nature, because the conflict of interests was cancelled by a court of law.

The minister explained his statement through the fact that unionists know he, as labor minister, did not take part in any analysis and any decision regarding the registration of the labor conflict between the union and management.
