Nearly 40% of those who answered placed doctors first; they are followed by teachers with 23.68%, and researchers with 16.94% of the votes, Myjob.ro said in a press release.

Few Romanians are of the opinion that judges and teachers deserve a high salary, as these categories received merely 4.99% and 3.68%, respectively, of the votes. Parliament members (2.45%), prosecutors (2.18%) and employees of various public bodies (city halls - 0.95%, cultural institutions - 0.8% and ministries - 0.47%) rank bottom in the survey.

These views are at odds with the unitary wage grid proposed and approved by the Romanian Government in the fall of 2009. According to the grid, MPs are second only to the head of state, followed by Cabinet members and employees of ministries and other public institutions.

Furthermore, the salary of a resident physician in Romania starts at 920 lei (EUR1=RON4.1137), and a new teacher's wage starts at RON800.

The survey was conducted online between January 28 and February 15 on a sample of 6,521 people. Most of these, almost a third, live in Bucharest (28%). Most participants had completed or were undertaking higher education (43%), while 9% also hold a Master's degree. Men accounted for 60% of those who answered, women - 40%.
