Union Leader Says Furlough Regulation, Work Booklets Are Romania’s Major Priorities

Hossu told a news conference in Zalau, northwestern Romania, the Government needs to issue an emergency decree regulating furlough and needs to do something to tackle the issue of work booklets.

"We currently have two major priorities in Romania, namely the need for an emergency decree regulating furlough and something to replace work booklets. It's not a problem that work booklets are no longer used but a mechanism needs to be found to force employers to have monthly reports employees may use as proof that their pension contributions have been paid," said Hossu.

He said employees reaching retirement age could otherwise have no means to prove they have contributed to the pension system and risk losing their pensions, which would ultimately lead to major social unrest.
