Romania’s Sanitary Authority Says No More Bird Flu Cases In Danube Delta Area

Ever since November 27, 410 households with 5,307 fowls have been checked in the protection area (on a three km-distance), and 182 blood samples have been collected.
Moreover, in Tulcea County, except for the protection and surveillance areas, 60 blood samples were collected from fowls, which were lab-tested to identify the bird flu virus, ANSVSA said.
The results of all lab-tested samples, except for those collected from the household in Murighiol where the bird flu virus was identified late November, were negative, the quoted source said.
ANSVSA confirmed last Wednesday a bird flu outbreak in the Danube Delta in a household in Murighiol.

The authority notified the European Commission on the case.

"We suspected a bird flu case in a household in Murighiol. Our suspicion was confirmed and all the necessary measures were taken. All fowls in the household were culled and we will start supervising farms across the country," said Nicolae Lazar, head of ANSVSA’s animal health department.

Disinfection filters have been installed on the entrance and exit to the locality. Trade and transport of fowls, poultry and eggs have been banned.

Veterinarians and representatives of the local councils and the Public Health Authority started a campaign informing the population on the measures that need to be observed to prevent the flu from spreading.

Over people in Murighiol received anti bird-flu vaccination, as well as the people living in the surrounding areas.
