Speaking at the invitation of President Traian Basescu, Boc said Romania needs a new Constitution.

“We should not fear a constitutional reform. We should not be afraid to revise the constitutional framework. All states proceed to reform their Constitution when certain aspects require updating and adjusting to the social and institutional evolution,” Boc said in his speech.

“The existing privilege system in the Romanian public system must be revised. The citizens are the state’s main supporters, through the taxes and dues they pay, and public authorities need to answer to such an imperative. They must meet people’s requirements, not only satisfy the political interests of a certain party or political group (…),” he mentioned.

Boc said there are three ways to revise the Constitution, namely through government’s initiative, parliament voting or through a legal initiative signed by at least 500,000 citizens eligible to vote.
