Romanian President Traian Basescu On Official Visit To Slovenia Wednesday

Basescu will hold official talks with Turk and meet with Slovenian Parliament Speaker Pavel Gantar and Ljubljana mayor Zoran Jankovic, the presidential office said in a press release Tuesday.

The Romanian head of state will visit the Mausoleum of World War I Heroes in Zale Cemetery in Ljubljana, where 80 Romanian army soldiers are also buried, and will meet with members of the Romanian community in Slovenia, the press release also reads. Almost 220 Romanian citizens live in Slovenia, according to data from the Romanian Foreign Ministry.

Ministry data also indicate the total volume of commercial exchanges between Romania and Slovenia amounted to EUR239.88 million on July 31, 2009. Romanian exports totaled EUR89.03 million and imports totaled EUR150.85 million.

Slovenia declared its independence on June 25, 1991, which Romania recognized on January 18, 1992. Romania and Slovenia established diplomatic relations on August 28, 1992 and a year later Romania opened an embassy in Ljubljana.

Romania's delegation to Slovenia includes Foreign Ministry state secretary Bogdan Aurescu and presidential advisers Anca Ileana Ilinoiu and Bujor Teodoriu.
