Romanian Suspended Labor Min To Advise PM During Suspension Time

Pacuraru presented a report of his activity during the mandate as labor minister, which began in April 2007.

The most important project seemed to him the 76% increase of the value of the pension point, to 697 lei (EUR1=RON3.6596) as of October 2008, from RON 396.2 in April 2007.

"When I became labor minister, the value of an average pension was of RON363, while as of October 1 it will reach RON680,” Pacuraru told the press conference.

Another accomplishment of his mandate was the set up if the European Social Fund, which launched 72 projects worth EUR1.2 billion. Until July 31, 2008, 974 fund requests were submitted, for which 69 projects have been signed.

Another project he referred to was the reorganization of the Labor Ministry. Employment agencies took over the attributions of other institutions handling migration issues.

Child state allowances saw a nearly 60% increase, to RON40 from RON20 during his mandate, while heating aid rose by 43%. Currently, 11 million Romanians benefit form this financial aid.

Pacuraru said that during his mandate the minimum gross salary rose to RON540 from RON390 in 2007.

The presidential staff announced Tuesday morning that Basescu signed the decree suspending Paul Pacuraru from his position of labor minister a day before, given that the anticorruption prosecutors officially charged him with bribery.
