Romania Might Be Allowed To Resume Pork Exports On EU Market

Romania's pork exports on the EU market have been banned since 2003 due to swine plague.

The Romanian Department for European Affairs (DAE) said in a press release that EU checkups will soon be carried out to see the development of the disease after Romania halted vaccination. DAE added that a decision of the EC regarding the resumption of pork exports depends on the checkups' results.

In 2007, the EC decided to extend until December 31, 2009 the ban imposed on Romanian firms regarding pork deliveries to EU, citing problems regarding swine plague eradication.
